TRAVELERS ALERT
GERMANY
Travelers to and from Germany are now being arrested at German airports
if they have expressed themselves, even in the remote past, in speech or
in writing which is construed as "illegal" according to the German
Federal Penal Code 130 Article 3 regarding "defamation." This
retroactive statute does not define this crime explicitly or exactly and
leaves its interpretation to the whims and biases of German prosecutors.
BEFORE YOU ENTER GERMANY
Play it safe by calling the German Embassy at (202) 298-4000, the U.S. State
Department (202) 647-5225, airlines and travel agents for a list of words,
thoughts and literature now forbidden in Germany. Demand posting of the
forbidden words and beliefs at all airports with departures to Germany.
The penalty for importing printed material containing illegal words and
subjects is three months to five years imprisonment. The "Book Burners"
have returned!!!!
Although Harry Wu was released by Communist China, there is no realistic
chance that our President, Bill Clinton, will intercede on your behalf in
other countries. Americans are now being imprisoned in foreign countries
for speaking or writing in America on politically incorrect topics. Remember,
there is no bail or pardon in Germany for Free Speech perpetrators.
LATEST ARREST
Last year, Hans Schmidt's name was entered in Western Europes's airport
computers because of his use of two prosribed adjectives. That's right -
illegla adjectives! - in a letter of November 1994, which he wrote while
in America and which subsequently ended up in the hands of government authorities
in Germany. A U.S. citizen since 1955, retired businessman Hans Schmidt
from Pensacola, Florida, while returning from a visit to his 93 year old
mother in Germany, was arrested at the Frankfurt Airport on August 9, 1995
and will remain in jail without bail until his trial in Schwerin, Germany.
In recent months, at least four foreign citizens were ambushed and arrested
in Germany, among them three Americans, and renowned British historian David
Irving, a best-selling author in America.
