VHO Website Censored by German Authorities

On April 27, 1998, Mayor Vandreike of the City of Frankfurt am Main (Germany), applied for the indexing, i.e. censoring of the entire Website of Vrij Historisch Onderzoek (VHO).

The application was filed within the "Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Schriften" (BPjS), the central German authority responsible for the indexing/censorship procedure. Ute Kortländer of the BPjS sent VHO a notice on May 12, 1998, notifying them that they have one week to respond to the censorship application.

The censorship of the VHO Website by the Government of Germany marks the first time that an entire Web Site has been censored for historical and scientific writings. The German government has to date only censored individual pages to which they were ideologically or politically opposed.
